Mobilising action through deep listening
Listen to the Heart
The Brief
Called by Aboriginal Christian Leaders to campaign for an enshrined Voice to Parliament, Christian advocacy movement Common Grace sought a platform that would allow these leaders to speak directly to the Australian Christian Church and rally support for the Yes campaign’s efforts to enshrine a voice in the constitution. Creative Freedom was engaged to build a scalable campaign on the NationBuilder platform that provided comprehensive tools for fundraising, resource sharing, education, and partnership opportunities. This platform needed to engage Christians nationwide to a posture of listening to and being led by Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander leaders, mobilising their support and driving action within the community to support the Voice.
The Solution
Understanding the cultural significance of both the Voice campaign and of listening to elders, the project collaborated closely with an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artist Safina Stewart for the brand identity, integrating their work throughout the site design. This approach allowed us to create a digital experience that was not only visually compelling but also resonated with the spirit of the movement.
We also developed a site architecture centred on listening—a value intrinsic to both the campaign and the Indigenous leadership behind it. We crafted an intuitive, user-friendly platform that emphasised the importance of hearing and understanding the voices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This was achieved through thoughtful content placement, interactive features that encouraged active engagement, and a design that guided users through the narrative of the campaign with care and intention.
Through this collaborative effort, Common Grace was equipped with a powerful digital tool to amplify the message of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Christian leaders, and foster widespread engagement in this campaign. The result was a platform that not only met the technical and functional needs of the campaign but also upheld the cultural and spiritual values at its core.
